Construction News Image
North Ayrshire Council is seeking input on the future development of Largs, Saltcoats and Kilwinning.

As part of a pilot project the council have selected these three areas to identify priorities and projects to address local needs and ambitions.

It will help inform the preparation of a plan called a 'Place Framework' for each town which will help guide future decisions within the areas.

A project team, led by Austin-Smith:Lord with WAVEparticle consultants, have been appointed to work with local people to develop projects and ideas with a focus on delivery and future funding opportunities.

Residents, business and anyone with an interest in each place will be invited to public design and ideas workshops in May to propose ideas and projects to make each town even better in future.

The discussions in Saltcoats and Kilwinning will build on the outcomes of the design charrettes held in the towns in recent years.

The public design workshops are as follows:

• Largs - Clark Memorial Hall 12-8pm on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19th May. Also Saturday 21st from 10am -2pm

• Saltcoats - Town Hall 12-8pm on Monday 23 May.

• Kilwinning - Erskine Hall 12- 8pm on Thursday 24th May

On these days members of the team will also be in and around each town to canvass the opinion of folk on-street.

Janet Dunsmore, Regeneration Manager at North Ayrshire Council, said: "We are looking forward to working with our project team and local residents to develop a framework to enhance each of the towns.

"Local communities know their towns better than anyone and their views will be invaluable as we develop new ideas and themes for Largs, Kilwinning and Saltcoats."

Further details of the programme of events and workshops will be published in the coming days, alongside how to have your say and share your ideas online or in writing.

The pilot project is funded by the UK Government's Community Renewal Fund.
