New Stirlingshire Active Travel Path Completed

Construction News Image
SP Energy Networks has announced the completion of a new cycle and footpath from Cowie to Fallin in Stirlingshire, providing locals with a safer route of travel between the two towns.

Until recently, the lack of a continuous safe footpath or cycle path had made the journey more difficult for the local community. The project was completed as part of the mitigation works for the major £35million Beauly-Denny substation development. As part of our community consultation, residents came together, and we worked closely with them to develop plans that would enhance the local area and benefit the community and environment.

As part of the project our team also planted over 10,000 plants and shrubs along the pathway, which will enhance the local area and environment for years to come.

The new footpath was a local commitment made by us in consultation with Stirling Council and community councils when development started on the Beauly-Denny line.

Colin Wylie, Community Liaison at SP Energy Networks, said: "It's really important to us that we work with and listen to the communities we serve. We are delighted that we were able to provide the new foot and cycle path for the communities in Cowie and Fallin."

The Beauly-Denny investment project was developed jointly by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc and SP Energy Networks and saw the construction of a major new substation at Denny and 20km of overhead line from Beauly to Denny.

The new line is an essential part of the UK electricity transmission system to facilitate renewable generation and to help Scotland realise its renewable energy potential, carbon reduction targets and support the security of the supply.

The line transports renewable energy from the North of Scotland to the Central Belt, where the integration of Denny facilities it's onward transmission.
