£1m Improvement Works Plan Unveiled For East Dunbartonshire

Construction News Image
East Dunbartonshire Council has approved a £1 million plan of action to improve drainage, access, paths and pavements across the region.

Projects will take place in Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Milton of Campsie, Milngavie and Torrance.

It follows the Council's decision in November 2021 to allocate an additional £1 million in capital funding for drainage works, path improvements and pavement resurfacing.

Councillor Andrew Polson, Joint Leader of the Council, said: "This is fantastic news for East Dunbartonshire. I'm delighted that we were able to allocate additional capital resources, which are going to be put to such excellent use - improving drainage, access and pavements across the area. Projects have also been identified for the future. Work will continue to investigate how these can be funded and delivered."

Councillor Vaughan Moody, Joint Leader of the Council, added: "Not only will this £1 million investment be good for access and helping people to keep active, it will also be beneficial for the environment - improving our resilience against severe weather events and climate change issues. Rest assured, we will continue in our efforts to secure support for future initiatives to improve East Dunbartonshire, as well as using our own resources."

The aim is for works to take place in 2022/23.

Projects are grouped within three categories - drainage, access and resurfacing:

• The drainage projects were identified following the major weather event in August 2021 when 65 locations were flooded. The sites selected were highlighted for direct intervention.

• Access projects were chosen via various sources that included the most recent active travel consultation and officers' knowledge of local issues.

• Pavement resurfacing locations were inspected and prioritised using the Council's Roads Inspection and Maintenance Policy to identify locations.

Already established core capital programmes will continue in parallel with the additional projects. There is a separate, ongoing core programme for road resurfacing.
