Stirling Structural Improvement Works Announced

Construction News Image
Stirling Council has announced that the next stage of structural improvements to the underpass on Burghmuir Road will begin on Monday 28th February.

Work will start on the underside of the bridge deck above the southbound carriageway and on the walls on the A9 Burghmuir Road.

The six-week project will have no impact on the operation of Goosecroft Road or access to the railway station or bus station.

Two-way traffic flow will be maintained on the A9 Burghmuir Road, with a contraflow system in operation and a reduced speed limit in place for the duration.

An embargo on other road works in the immediate area has also been put in place by the Council to avoid conflicting works being undertaken which may impact traffic.

A full night time closure will be in place from 11pm-6am on Sunday 27th, Monday 28th February and Tuesday 1st March to allow workers to set up for the improvements. Further full night time closures will be required as part of the works, which will be advertised in advance.

As part of the project the lighting within the underpass will also be upgraded to provide new LED lighting.

These works are part of a wider programme of improvements to the area surrounding Stirling Railway Station and Goosecroft Road.

The future improvements to the railway station forecourt and Goosecroft Road will progress later in 2022/23 as part of Scotrail's Stirling Station Gateway Project. This will improve access and pedestrian and cycle routes to the station and city centre.

Convenor of Stirling Council's Environment and Housing Committee, Councillor Jim Thomson, said: "We are committed to upgrading our road network throughout Stirling and these repairs and improvements will enhance and improve the main travel route through Stirling city centre.

"We have put measures in place to minimise the disruption to drivers as much as possible, ensuring that traffic flow will be maintained, and we appreciate the patience of drivers while this work is carried out.

Vice Convenor, Councillor Danny Gibson, said: "We understand how important the use of Burghmuir Road is to local residents and businesses.

"That's why we have ensured that two-way traffic will be maintained via a contraflow system and no surrounding works will impact on this already busy route."
