A new 257-bed purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) development on Mayfield Road in Edinburgh is to be designed and built by Clark Contracts, on behalf of Audley Modular Student Living.
The new developments is situated directly opposite The University of Edinburgh's Kings Building Campus and will consist of two five-storey buildings to provide a total of 257 rooms, with the first building providing 148 beds and the second providing a further 109.
74% of the accommodation is dedicated to studios with the remaining comprising of 3-bed en-suite cluster apartments.
The building is being constructed with an innovative modular technique, with the studios/apartments being manufactured off site by modular specialist DMD Modular, before being transported to the site and installed within the building frame. This modular construction technique facilitates a reduced build time and will see the project complete for the 2022/23 academic year.
The new development will also feature a modern gym, communal area, laundry facilities and a cinema, all of which will be formed via traditional construction.
The design and delivery team includes 56Three Architects, MDA Consulting, Meinhardt Group and Etive Consulting Engineers.
Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts added: "It is fantastic for us to be working on another student accommodation project in Edinburgh, where we have delivered over 400 student beds in the last 3 years. We are looking forward to seeing the development take shape over the coming months."
