£335,000 A9 Road Surface Improvement Works Announced

Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland has announced road surface improvement works, worth £335,000, for the A9 southbound near Perth, due to get underway on Thursday 10 February.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A9 between Crossgates Junction and Burnside Lodge, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

Following preparatory temporary traffic management operations the surfacing is scheduled to get underway from 7.30pm on Friday 11 February and is planned to take place over one weekend with operations programmed where possible to take place consecutively. The improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Monday 14 February, subject to weather conditions. To allow this project to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be required on the network as follows:

• Thursday 10 February – Overnight lane closures will be in place for safety on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow for contraflow traffic management to be installed ahead of the project. A lane closure on the northbound carriageway will remain in place during the day on Friday for safety.

• Friday 11 February Monday 14 February – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place between Crossgates Junction and Burnside Lodge on the A9 northbound from 7.30pm on Friday 11 February until 6.30am on Monday 14 February. Single lane traffic will be travelling in both directions on the northbound carriageway while the A9 southbound carriageway is resurfaced.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: "This latest £335,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out maintenance works on this section of the A9 to ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard.

"The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists during the project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the improvements to take place over one weekend with operations programmed consecutively where possible, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

"We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A9. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
