Network Rail Invest £4m In Ayrshire Rail Track

Construction News Image
Network Rail has announced an investment of more than £4 million to replace aging rail track between Glasgow and Kilwinning.

Over the next four weekends, engineers will be working to renew over a mile of track at various locations including Howwood, Glengarnock and Dalgarven.

To help ensure the continued safe and smooth running of the railway, our teams will be working hard to replace old, worn railway track by removing it and laying new stone ballast, sleepers and rails.

Due to the complexity of the engineering work, these projects cannot be delivered without some short-term closures of the line.

While we deliver this vital investment in Scotland's Railway, replacement bus services will operate on Sundays between Paisley Gilmour Street and Kilwinning. A direct bus will also operate between Glasgow Central and Ardrossan Harbour to connect with ferry sailings.

Liam Sumpter, Network Rail route director for Scotland, said: "The work we are undertaking is vital for the long-term future reliability of the line.

"Our engineers will be working around-the-clock to complete these complex projects as quickly as possible.

"We understand the inconvenience these works will cause to some passengers and residents and we thank them for their patience. We are committed to completing this work quickly and limiting disruption as much as possible."
