Glasgow-based housebuilder, AS Homes, has secured a £12.2 million contract to deliver an affordable housing development at Orr Street in Glasgow as part of a wider redevelopment of St Mary's church grounds in Calton.
The development will transform the derelict brownfield site in the east end of Glasgow - creating 80 new affordable homes in two phases and a permanent memorial.
Housing association and charity Home Group appointed AS Homes to deliver the Orr Street development having already appointed the housebuilder to deliver the North Gower Street development. The £5.5 million North Gower Street development will see 36 new affordable homes built on the site of the former Bellahouston Academy. The two contracts have a combined value of around £18 million.
Work started at Orr Street in January 2022 and it is expected to be completed by Autumn 2023.
Paul Kelly, Managing Director of AS Homes, said: "AS Homes has a long history of working with housing associations and we are delighted to be partnering with Home Group Scotland on the Orr Street development as this will provide wonderful homes to those on modest incomes in Glasgow.
"All things considered, the Orr Street and North Gower Street developments demonstrate our commitment, as a Glasgow based housebuilder, to creating homes for communities and providing homes where they are needed the most in the city. Our collaboration with housing associations will continue long into the future, bringing a wealth of employment opportunities and other benefits to communities in Glasgow and the West of Scotland region."
Claire Monk, Senior Development and Delivery Manager of Home Group, said: "I'm delighted to see work getting underway on two new Glasgow developments that will deliver much needed homes for social rent.
"We have a longstanding relationship with AS Homes, having previously worked on a number of projects with them, as well as our grant funding partner Glasgow City Council.
"Orr Street and North Gower Street will consolidate our work in these neighbourhoods and add to the growing number of Home Group developments across Glasgow that are helping to deliver high quality affordable housing."
