£495,000 Road Surface Improvement Works Announced For A82

Construction News Image
Transport Scotland have announced an investment of £495,000 in road surface improvement works for the A82, near Glencoe.

BEAR Scotland will carry out the works on almost 1.1km of the A82 at Loch Achtriochtan, beginning on Sunday 30 January and taking approximately three weeks to complete. The works are programmed to take place between 8pm and 5am each night. No works are planned for Friday or Saturday nights.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the surfacing operations will be carried out using a full road closure. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A828 and A85 adding an additional 45 minutes onto journey times between Tyndrum and Ballachullish. Due to there being a height restriction of 4.2m (13’9") on the A828 at Connel Bridge, amnesties will also be implemented at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2pm and 4pm on the A82. During these times vehicles will be safely escorted through the site using a 10mph convoy traffic management system. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

The A82 will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works on a temporary road surface.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: "This £495,000 surfacing improvements project on the A82 at Loch Achtriochtan will help address defects and greatly improve the road for motorists.

"For safety, we need to close the road overnight however we’ve taken steps to minimise disruption as much as possible by scheduling the work to avoid Friday and Saturday nights and by arranging amnesty periods where possible.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we work on this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information."
