Highlands and islands Enterprise (HIE) has announced that it will host a webinar on Thursday 27 January for potential energy supply chain companies to learn about the opportunities available following the announcement of the ScotWind 1 offshore wind leasing announcement by Crown Estate Scotland.
HIE said that the first Scottish offshore wind leasing round in a decade is an important step towards building the next generation of offshore wind projects.
25GW of new developments are planned in Scotland, three of which will be in waters off the coast of the Outer Hebrides. HIE said the announcement heralds in an exciting new era of major expansion for the sector in the region.
Northland Power have been awarded Option Agreements for areas N2 (north-east of the Butt of Lewis) and N4 (west of Lewis). Magnora Offshore (partnering with Technip FMC), have been awarded an Option Agreement for area N3, north-west of the Butt of Lewis. Between them, the two developers hold the potential to generate over 2.8GW of renewable energy to support the UK's drive towards Net Zero.

Paul O'Brien, senior development manager (energy and inward investment) at HIE, said: "We would encourage any business or potential supply partner in the islands to attend the webinar next week for a chance to find out more about the huge opportunities following this announcement.
"Its great news for the Highlands and Islands and has the added potential for Scotland to become an exporter of offshore wind technology beyond 2030 and is expected to lead to the creation of many new jobs."
