BEAR Scotland has announced road surface improvement works for the A7, scheduled to last 14 nights from 17-28 January and 7-9 February.

The works will see Transport Scotland's operating company BEAR Scotland resurface 3.2km of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A7 will be closed from Teviothead to the Johnnie Armstrong Gallery, between 19:30 and 06:00 each night from Monday 17 January to Friday 28 January, excluding Saturday and Sunday nights.


The A7 will then be closed from south of Hawick High School to Sandbed Roundabout between 19:30 and 06:00 each night from Monday 7 February to Tuesday 9 February.

A diversion route will be signposted between Hawick and Canonbie via the A6088, B6357 and B7201 throughout the duration of these works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland's South East Network Manager, said: "These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A7 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

"It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we've arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

"We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We'll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible."
