Angus Council have awarded McGill a £212,000 contract to install solar photovoltaic panels at Websters High School and Southmuir Primary School, both in Kirriemuir.
The Dundee-based contractor and renewables expert will carry out the entire project from end to end, with the scoping and design phases being handled inhouse, then handing over to McGill's experienced Eco Team for installation. The system will be thoroughly tested, and onsite training delivered, before being handed over to Angus Council for ongoing management.
This is the second such award from Angus Council, coming just weeks after McGill began work on a similar solar panel installation project at Brechin Community Campus. McGill's reputation as experts in renenwable technologies such as solar panels, air source heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging points continues to grow through prestigious projects such as Dundee Science Centre.
The work is likely to take around 12 weeks to complete, and is due to begin before the end of this year, with completion likely to take place in early 2022.
McGill Chief Executive Officer Errol Lawrie said, "This is a large, complex, and exciting project. The scale of the solar panel installation is huge, and our Eco Team will be working across two separate schools, one of which is a modern building, while the other is older and so presents more of a challenge.
"Our customers know that we deliver a comprehensive service from inception to completion, and always work to the very highest safety and quality standards, which is of course vital when we're working in buildings which are still open to the public."
Chief Operating Officer Douglas Smith MRICS commented: "I'm so proud of our Commercial Team who work hand-in-hand with the rest of the business to win contracts time and time again. Angus Council are a longstanding client of ours, and the fact that we continue to grow our partnerships with councils, housing associations, and other public sector bodies across Scotland shows me that we are recognised experts in the renewables sector. We are delighted with this new contract, and looking forward to getting started in just a few weeks' time."
