A major housing development on Oban has seen the completion of 107 new homes at Glenshellach on behalf of Argyll Community Housing Association.
The project lasted 7 years and was completed in November 2020. The official opening was delayed due to Covid 19.
The overall project invested £15.4million in the local economy with £6.8m coming from the Scottish Government, £6.7m from ACHA, and £1.9m from Argyll and Bute council
The completed housing has provided a mixture of flats, semi-detached, detached and terraced houses to meet a variety of different needs, including large mainstream family homes, housing for special needs and amenity housing.
Roddy McCuish, ACHA's Chairman said: "This development, which is ACHA's largest in Oban to date, meets much needed housing need, provided 75 jobs throughout the 7 years of its development and, at a personal level, I am so proud to see decent affordable homes for our community here in Oban. I hope these houses become homes for generations to come."
Alastair MacGregor, ACHA's Chief Executive, added: "This development has given us a real opportunity to meet a number of the challenges we face in providing housing in Oban. We have a really pressured housing market and access for so many people is very difficult indeed. I would like to thank the Scottish Government and Argyll and Bute Council for supporting us in this development. We could not have done it on our own."
Jenni Minto, Member of the Scottish Parliament said: "I am delighted to have officially opened ACHA's new homes here at Glenshellach in Oban. It is great to see the Scottish Government, Argyll and Bute Council and ACHA working in partnership to fund and build these important additions to the affordable rent housing stock in Oban. These beautiful and energy efficient homes give families and individuals a safe and secure place to live."
The project was delivered by MacLeod Construction of Lochgilphead and includes two substantial children's playparks and a new facility by way of a turning circle and shelter for public transport.
