BEAR Scotland has announced £580,000 worth of road surface improvement works for two sections of the A82 and one section on the A828, set to begin on Sunday 14 November.

The investment by Transport Scotland will see two sections of the A82 resurfaced between Tyndrum and Ballachulish and one section of the A828 to the south of Creagan Roundabout, promoting better ride comfort and safer journeys for motorists.

The overnight improvements will take approximately four weeks to complete. Works will take place between 8pm and 5am each night with surfacing due to be completed by 5am on Wednesday 15 December, subject to weather conditions. No works are planned for Friday or Saturday nights.

The intended programme of work is as follows:

• A82 north of Ba Bridge – Sunday 14 November to Tuesday 23 November (eight nights, excluding Friday and Saturday nights)

Due to the narrow carriageway width associated with the A82 at this location, a full road closure will be required to complete the works safely. A signed diversion route via the A85 and A828 will be in place during working hours which will add approximately 30 miles to the journey between Ballachulish and Tyndrum. To cater for the height restriction applicable to the Connel Bridge (4.2 metres) on the diversion route, amnesties on the A82 will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am each night. During these times vehicles will be safely escorted through the work site using a 10mph convoy traffic management system. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.


• A828 South of Creagan Roundabout – Sunday 28 November to Monday 29 November (two nights)

Due to the restricted road width on this section of the A828, a road closure will be in place between 8pm and 5am to ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users. A signed diversion route will be in place via Tyndrum using the A85 and A82, adding approximately 50 minutes onto journey times between Connel and Ballachulish. To minimise disruption to road users, amnesty periods will be provided on the A828 at 9pm, 10pm, midnight 2am and 4am when waiting traffic will be escorted safely through the roadworks. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

• A82 Loch Achtriochtan – Tuesday 30 November to Tuesday 14 December (11 nights, excluding Friday and Saturday nights)

Due to the narrow carriageway width associated with the A82 at these locations, a full road closure will be required to complete the works safely. A signed diversion route via the A85 and A828 will be in place during working hours which will add approximately 30 miles to the journey between Ballachulish and Tyndrum. To cater for the height restriction applicable to the Connel Bridge (4.2 metres) on the diversion route, amnesties on the A82 will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, midnight, 2am and 4am each night. During these times vehicles will be safely escorted through the work site using a 10mph convoy traffic management system. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

At each site, traffic management will be reduced outwith working hours, however a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
