One of Scotland's most innovative retrofit projects, 107 Niddrie Road, has received worldwide recognition from the Build Better Now Exhibition.
The virtual conference will host a 'COP26 Virtual Environment Pavilion' with 17 inspiring building projects showcasing how climate action is being addressed in our cities.
Following an Open Call, which was launched in June 2021, a rigorous and transparent selection process was undertaken to find projects for the exhibition. A judging panel comprising industry leaders from across the world, with insight into the complexities of built environment sustainability issues on a regional and local level, selected projects that are making an immediate positive impact on the planet and people's lives. These projects are both scalable and replicable – giving the potential to deliver far-reaching impacts. Exploring themes such as natural resource use, climate mitigation and adaptation and nature and biodiversity, Build Better Now will showcase some of the most innovative solutions from across the globe.
Niddrie Road, located in the southside of Glasgow, comprises the retrofit of eight flats contained within a traditional, Glasgow South tenement to an enhanced standard of energy performance known as EnerPHit which has been developed by the Passivhaus Trust.
Works comprise fabric enhancements in the form of EWI and IWI; the installation of loft insulation and triple-glazed windows; improved layouts; wastewater heat recovery and the use of air-source heat pumps with the combination of these services contributing to a reduction in energy demand between 70 and 90%.
CCG is undertaking works in partnership with John Gilbert Architects on behalf of Southside Housing Association with support from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Funding Council.
