Approval Sought For 14 Renewed Play Parks In Renfrewshire

Construction News Image
Proposals to renew 14 play parks across Renfrewshire have been brought forward to councillors.

Renfrewshire Council is investing £1.25 million over the next two years to renovate the parks. Brand-new play equipment would replace the existing assets in parks identified as being most in need, while the plans also include the refurbishment of equipment in seven other play parks to improve their lifespan and appeal for local people.

The 14 parks set for a full renewal include:

• Campbell Street, Renfrew

• Tinto Square, Renfrew

• East End Park Paisley

• Maxwellton Park, Paisley

• Ben Lawers (Hawkhead Park), Paisley

• Crags Road, Paisley

• Durrockstock Park, Paisley

• Morar Drive, Paisley

• Elm Drive/Sycamore Ave, Johnstone

• Ellerslie Street, Johnstone

• Lochwinnoch Park, Lochwinnoch

• Ardgryffe Park, Houston

• Churchill Drive, Bishopton

• Park Mains, Erskine.

Council officers would work with local community groups in each area to ensure the equipment meets the needs of the local families and young people.

Play parks to have equipment refurbished would include:

• Robertson Park, Renfrew

• Barshaw Park, Paisley

• Dunvegan Avenue, Elderslie

• Howwood Toddler/Junior, Howwood

• Houston Public Park, Houston

• Moss Road Park, Bridge of Weir

• Inchinnan Playing Fields, Inchinnan.

There will be future phases to the play area renewal and investment programme for delivery in 2022/2023 and, dependant on funding provision, the programme may be extended to include additional play parks within Renfrewshire.

Councillor Cathy McEwan, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: "We recognise the importance of our play parks to local people and families which is why we have committed £1.25million to their improvement.

"I'm glad to see plans coming forward for this investment and I look forward to councillors considering these at the forthcoming board meeting."

The Council has also received a additional grant of £158,000 from the Scottish Government for investment in play parks which will enhance the Council's investment in this project.

Investment would also be made to improve access to the play parks in a bid to support increased walking, cycling and wheeling in these areas and the general enjoyment of Renfrewshire's green spaces, while funding from the Scottish Government's Cycling Walking and Safer Streets Fund would provide bicycle and scooter stands too.

Councillors will consider the plans at the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board on Wednesday 25 August 2021.
