North Lanarkshire Council Welcomes 800th Tenant To Wishaw New Build

Construction News Image
North Lanarkshire Council has welcomed the 800th tenant to their new build council home project in Wishaw, marking a milestone in their ongoing housing building project.

The new tenant, Laura, is busy making her new house into the perfect family home at the development in Dimsdale Road/Wilson Crescent, Wishaw.

This is the 37th new build development to welcome tenants and marks the Council's continued progress in reaching its target of delivering 5,000 homes by 2035. In addition, they also have seven more projects on site and a number at the planning stage.

The Wishaw site features 61 new homes. There's a mix of new builds to meet a wide range of needs and include 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes (two of our 4-bedroom houses are built to wheelchair standard); 1 and 2-bedroom cottage flats; two 3-bedroom wheelchair bungalows and two 2-bedroom wheelchair bungalows.

Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, Convener of Housing and Regeneration, visited Laura and presented her with flowers. She said: "It's always a pleasure to visit our tenants and to see how they are settling into and enjoying their new homes and being part of a new community.

"All of our new homes are built for the future and with the needs of our tenants at the heart of their design. They boast innovative features including being flexible enough to adapt as a tenant's circumstances change, are secure by design and boast a 'very good' energy efficiency rating, saving tenants money on their bills while protecting the environment.

"Each of our housing developments supports the local economy, community, provides jobs and improves the lives of our tenants and residents and helps us realise our vision of making North Lanarkshire the place to live."

Laura, added: "I'm really enjoying my new home and love living here. The children really love the garden and the outdoor space and with the weather being so good it's been great that they have been able to play safely outside.

"It's a great area and the house is just perfect for us."

The £10.6m development, delivered by CCG (Scotland) Ltd, included a number of community benefits. Five new jobs including assistant site manager, joiner, labourers and a cleaner were created. A number of virtual sessions with St. Aidan's High School also took place, including mock interviews, being work ready and a presentation about life on a construction site.

A contribution of £3.599m was made by the Scottish Government for this development.
