MKM Building Supplies Acquires Spey Valley

Construction News Image
The UK's largest independent builders merchant, MKM Building Supplies, has further expanded its presence in Scotland with the purchase of Spey Valley Timber & Builders Merchants.

The acquisition follows a period of significant growth in Scotland for MKM, with the business unveiling new branches in Inverness (launched 12 July) and Peterhead (to be opened in September). The addition of Spey Valley grows MKM's Scottish network to 17 branches.

Founded in the 1980s, Spey Valley Timber & Builders Merchants is a locally owned independent business that supplies building materials, equipment and accessories to tradespeople throughout Aviemore and the wider Scottish Highlands. The acquisition by MKM ensures customers in the region still have access to an independent merchant, bolstered by MKM's unbeatable product range and commitment to providing a first class service offering.

For us, MKM were the ideal choice. They have a well-renowned reputation for being a 'people' business, and I can think of no better fit for our long-serving and loyal workforce than MKM.

We will be adding a kitchen and bathroom showroom to the branch, alongside offering a new range of plumbing and heating products – areas in which MKM are incredibly strong. This is fantastic news for tradespeople in the region, as it means they can get an even wider range of first-rate products, all under one roof."

The acquisition comes at an exciting time for MKM. The independent merchant is in the middle of an ambitious growth strategy, which has seen a host of new branches open their doors across the UK, including Birmingham North, Barnsley and Penrith in recent months.
