Construction News Image
Plans for Galashiels Community Campus have entered a further public consultation.

A more detailed version of the project is now available to view online, specifically focused on the proposal to build the Community Campus within the existing school boundary and a portion of the town's Scott Park.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the online space here to view plans for the the replacement of Galashiels Academy. These include updated site plans and designs which have been further developed and refined following a period of informal consultation with the local community.

Members of the community can also revisit the materials presented as part of the informal consultation which took place in March and April, including videos outlining the vision for the proposed campus, animated fly-throughs of what the facility may look like and interviews with pupils and members of the community.

Exhibition boards outlining the updated designs will also be positioned at Galashiels Transport Exchange from 09 July to 19 August.

Online public meetings are being held on 28 July and 04 August where Scottish Borders Council will showcase the designs for the Campus in detail and explain their decision making for the project.

It will also provide an opportunity to update the public on progress made by the Scott Park working group which is working in collaboration with the local community to help shape and influence the final design of the reimagined and expanded park.

You can register for the online consultation sessions by emailing Galacampus@scotborders.gov.uk.

Following the conclusion of the consultation, the comments received will be included within a report that will be submitted as part of the full planning application.

A statutory education consultation will also take place focusing on the educational benefits of the Campus with the aim of gathering feedback from the school community.

Councillor Carol Hamilton, Executive Member for Children and Young People, said: "Engagement with the community at this stage of designing the Campus is crucial in helping shape the finalised plans.

"Our main goal as part of this project is creating a facility that will bring benefits to all who use it, including the wider Galashiels community and beyond.

"That's why we are encouraging as many people as possible to view our updated plans on the online consultation space and submit their feedback.

"An online public meeting is being held which will allow members of the public to hear in more detail the plans and vision for the Campus and hear directly from all those involved in the project.

"This consultation really is the opportunity for all in the community, not just the school community, to get involved and share their views about the plans for a brand new school."
