Aberdeen City Council's planning committee has granted planning permission for a 99-home site at a former primary school, part of a major project delivering 2,000 new-build council houses across the city.
The committee agreed unanimously to the move which will see 99 new council flats and houses at Craighill in Kincorth built alongside parking, public and private amenity, and open spaces. A schedule of work is to be agreed with the main contractor.
The Craighill development is one of several sites across Aberdeen which form part of the wider Aberdeen City Council Housing Programme 2020 aiming to address a long-term shortage of affordable social rented housing in the city.
The other sites due to be built include Auchmill, the former Kincorth Academy site at Kincorth, Tillydrone, and Kaimhill.
Planning applications for the 99 homes at Craighill, the 70-home site at Tillydrone, the 212-home development in Kincorth, and the 35 units at Kaimhill have been submitted to the Planning Authority in recent weeks.
As part of the 2,000 homes project, 99 council homes were built in Smithfield in 2017 and 80 in Manor Walk in 2018. Construction has started on 283 units at Wellheads Road and 369 at the former Summerhill Academy site. Work has finished and tenants have moved into the 67 flats in phase one at Wellheads.
Aberdeen City Council housing spokesperson Councillor Sandra Macdonald said: "It is great that planning permission has been granted for the new homes at Craighill.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the flats and houses starting to be built and I'm sure local residents in the Craighill area will be watching the progress too."
The vision of the Aberdeen City Council Housing Programme is to create sustainable integrated communities and places, delivering affordable homes designed for life, which meet residents' current and changing needs, supporting the wellbeing and resilience of our tenants.
It is the biggest housing programme in Aberdeen for more than 50 years and is providing high quality homes of differing sizes suitable for a range of tenants in a community setting.
The homes are also designed to be Gold Standard, which means they have level of energy efficiency throughout as well as quality, low maintenance external amenity spaces which will encourage Active Travel.
