Perth & Kinross Council have approved a proposal for the redevelopment of the former Hillside Hospital site into a new luxury care home.
Located on Dundee Road, southeast of the city centre and overlooking the banks of the River Tay, the new, 77-bed care home is the latest development to have been taken forward by multi-award-winning private care provider, Morrison Community Care Group (MCCG).
The company is one of Scotland's foremost providers of 24/7 residential, nursing and dementia care and recently formed a joint venture initiative with CCG to support the delivery of modern, elderly accommodation across Scotland.
Perth forms part of a trio of proposals that have been submitted by the firms since January 2021 including a 58-bed care home in Clarkston, Renfrewshire, and a 68-bed development in Dalgety Bay, Fife.
Works to deliver a further 56 beds in Troon and 50 beds in Stirling remain ongoing with the former (Queens View harbour Luxury Suites) set to launch this summer.
Paul Sokhi, Managing Director of Morrison Community Care Group, said: "With an ageing population and people living longer, there is a growing demand for modern luxury accommodation, with strong infection control design, for older people in Scotland. Thus, it is very exciting to be involved at Perth where we will aim to make a positive, long-term contribution by delivering sector-leading standards of health and care provision. It is yet another milestone for Morrison Community Care in our mission to develop 2000 beds across Scotland and Ireland by 2025."
CCG Managing Director, David Wylie, said: "Perth & Kinross is a local authority that we know well and we are delighted to be working with Morrison Community Care on this new care home. We're conscious of the work being developed by the Care Inspectorate to continually improve standards for residents and our designs will take this on board to deliver the level of quality associated with Morrison Community Care. This in tandem with our drive to improve sustainability and maximise a fabric first approach through our off-site manufacturing division will combine and continue to set a new benchmark for the delivery of care facilities.
"We believe that our combined expertise will help support our growing elderly population and we look forward to taking these proposals forward over the coming months."
