Work has started on a £1.9million renovation project at Dundyvan Gardens sheltered housing complex in North Lanarkshire.
From new landscaped gardens and a hairdressing facility, to additional common room areas and safety features, including dementia friendly colour coded doors and frames, these exciting changes are set to improve the lives of residents.
"This is a significant project that will positively impact on the lives of our tenants and their families," explained Cameron Barr, Housing Property and Projects.
"Before any work was carried out, we spoke with our residents explaining the nature of the work and how this would be done. At all stages of the project, which is being delivered by Ashwood construction limited, the contractor has taken the needs of our tenants into account. One of the ways they are doing this is to carry out the work in small phases to reduce any stress from noise, vibration or disruption that residents might be worried about.
"Everyone is very excited by the plans and it's the talk of the complex! The renovation will deliver a fabulous environment for our tenants to enjoy with their families and friends, bringing a real sense of community to Dundyvan Gardens."
As part of the refurbishment an extension is being added to the existing common areas as well as two further communal areas which tenants can use to meet up in.
Safety upgrades are also taking place, including fire detection measures. These will see all flat doors and frames being replaced with colour coded doors and frames, a key dementia friendly measure and one that will also help the visually impaired.
Additional family areas and benches are being created as part of the landscape garden plans.
The project is expected to be completed by summer 2022.
