Scottish government funding for two new climate emergency projects that are designed to demonstrate collaboration between businesses, academia and the public sector in order to accelerate Scotland's carbon agenda of becoming a 'net zero' economy by 2045, has been announced by Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation, Ivan McKee.
The £500,000 funding package has been awarded by the Scottish Funding Council for the initiatives selected to prove the value of collaboration and it is led by academic partners the University of Edinburgh and Glasgow University.
The announcement was made in the south side of Glasgow where CCG, on behalf of Southside Housing Association, is set to retrofit 8 dwellings (located on Niddrie Road) to an 'Enefit' standard of thermal performance with an improvement in airtightness set to create energy savings of between 75 and 90%.
Ivan McKee MSP said: "We are facing a global climate emergency and of the major challenges is not only how we build in the future but reducing carbon emissions from existing housing stock. As these projects demonstrate, innovation plays a key part in this and will help us reach our ambitious, world-leading target to reach net-zero by 2045."
CCG has donated £10,000 towards the funding package with the works programme to commence this spring over a proposed 5-month duration.
David Wylie, CCG Managing Director, said: "CCG is delighted to be part of this project working alongside one of our long-term partners, Southside Housing Association. Our company has extensive experience in the area of comprehensive tenement repairs and we will seek to use this understanding with this new form of retrofitting.
"The Scottish Government's carbon agenda is ambitious but it will be upon the industry very soon so it is imperative that we address retrofitting now as a key part of our economy's housing strategy as we move toward a 'net zero' economy."
CCG has previously worked with Southside HA on a number of planned maintenance contracts whilst the hugely innovative Admiral Street, a new build affordable housing development, was completed in 2018; a project that was CCG's first 'hybrid' timber construction utilising a mix of timber frame and Cross Laminated Timber.
