Aberdeen City Council Continues Works On City's Playparks

Aberdeen City Council is working to refurbish or replace playparks across the city as part of an ongoing project.

The latest round of work brings the total of refurbished playparks to more than 130 since the project began seven years ago, costing about £450,000.

Seven upgrades or replacements have already been completed at Kaimhill Circle, Beattie Avenue, Greenfern Road, Jesmond Drive, Johnston Gardens, Johnston Gardens East, Sheddocksley Community Centre, and Kirk Terrace to the delight of youngsters who have been out making the most of them in the milder winter weather.

Old equipment at North Grampian Circle has been removed and is due to be reinstated within the next few months, weather permitting. Westerton Crescent has also been completely removed and prepared for the new equipment which will be installed as soon as possible.

One of the most used and popular playparks in Aberdeen at Queen's Links at the beach is in progress with a new multi feature boat climber with slide.

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Jenny Laing said: "The refurbishments and replacement playparks has been a fantastic project which has benefited communities all around the city and we are delighted with how they all look.

"We know how much fun the youngsters have at these places as they encourage imaginative play along with other skills such as getting along with other children and learning how to climb and balance. In addition, our city's green spaces and play equipment help to keep our youngsters fit and healthy.

"The playparks already finished are fantastic and we look forward to watching the last remaining playparks being refurbished in the coming months."

The refurbishments of playparks started in 2013/14 and have continued in each subsequent year. The programme of work also includes an annual play equipment audit.

The refurbishment of the playparks has been taken forward on a priority basis, while ensuring there is an even spread to communities all over the city.
