Moray Council Approved Over A Dozen Compensatory Tree Planting Sites

Construction News Image
Moray Council has approved more than a dozen sites for a programme of compensatory tree planting.

Compensatory tree planting is required when a planning application involves the felling of woodland. An eight-week consultation on potential sites was undertaken by Moray Council, closing in November 2019. Two dozen comments were made by members of the public, community groups and key consultees and, from this feedback, a final list of approved sites was put together, which Moray Council's planning committee approved today.

Sites suitable for compensatory tree planting, for which £26.6k has already been received, are:

• land adjacent to Seafield Primary, Elgin

• rear of Kennedy Place, Elgin

• Millbuies Country Park, Fogwatt

• Robertson Road playing fields, Lhanbryde

• Sunbank East, Lossiemouth

• Blaven Court, Forres

• Bogton Park, Forres

• Califer Road, Forres

• Forres train station

• Mannachie Park, Forres

• former railway lines, Buckie

• land adjacent to Gollachy waste site, Buckie

• Queen Street Gardens, Buckie

• Tinniver Park, Dufftown

Chair of Moray Council's Planning & Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr David Bremner, thanked those who took part in their consultation for their input.

"The feedback we received has helped identify the most appropriate sites for these trees to be planted. It's important that the felling of woodland is mitigated and, with landowners' consent, we'll progress tree planting to enhance and protect the landscape and biodiversity of these areas."
