Aberdeen Council House Building Programme

Construction News Image
Aberdeen City Council is urging landowners and developers to register their interest in providing high-quality council homes.

The council recently adopted the industry's gold standard as part of its innovative programme to provide an additional 2,000 properties.

More than 800 homes have already been built or are under construction at Manor Walk, Smithfield, Summerhill and Wellheads.

And survey work is set to start at plots in Craighill, Tillydrone and Kincorth.

Council Co-Leader Councillor Douglas Lumsden said: "We have already provided hundreds of new homes in partnership with the private sector and wish to accelerate our programme.

"Today we are sharing our expectations with firms who may want to be part of this once-in-a-generation venture.

"We are looking for homes that are designed around people – that will meet tenants' needs over a lifetime and bring all the health benefits associated with a quality environment.

"The gold standard also demands that the new homes use energy efficient technologies, which will help reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions."

A PIN (Prior Information Notice) outlining the Council's plans was published today on the Public Contracts Scotland website.

A PIN is a Call for Competition and invites developers and landowners to engage with the Council about potential projects.
