Dundee City Council have announced their participation in the Woodland Trust's 2019 Big Climate Fightback campaign.
The campaign aims to get one million people to plant a tree by the start of the tree planting season on Saturday 30 November.
Announcing the support for the campaign, Neighbourhood Services Convener, Councillor Anne Rendall, said: "Planting trees has many benefits. It's great to see the Council's Countryside Ranger and Forestry Service being so proactive in planting trees around Dundee, and working with partners to do so.
"The Rangers service put on tree planting events and the 2019 Big Climate Fightback is the ideal opportunity to get involved.
"The Council will soon hit 10,000 new trees planted in the city since 2017.
"The positives of tree planting are vast. Trees can help combat climate change through carbon capture, encourage wildlife, bring people in the community together and improve health and wellbeing through cleaner air quality.
"The future Dundee tree planting strategy will include over 500 more trees being planted at the Law as part of the Law Heritage Project."
Director of Woodland Trust, Carol Evans, said: "The Big Climate Fightback is about inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds. Simply go to our website and pledge to plant a tree, whether it is in your own back garden, neighbourhood, school or at an organised event.
"This is a chance for everyone to do their bit against climate change as part of a mass movement."
National Tree Week will be also be marked in Dundee with a Dundee City Council tree planting event at the city's Templeton Woods. The free event will take place on Saturday 30 November between 12pm-3pm. Plans are in place to plant up to 200 native trees in the woodland area.
Participants are encouraged to take part by bringing along a spade and planting a tree. Refreshments, training and additional equipment, such as gloves, will be made available for attendees.
