North Ayrshire Council have announced a public consultation on plans for a biomass boiler system at the Flatt Road housing development.
The Council is asking residents to have their say on the proposal, which would deliver savings on energy bills for tenants and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
As well as a number of schools across North Ayrshire, both Watt Court sheltered housing complex in Dalry and Glencairn House sheltered housing complex in Stevenston are currently served by biomass systems.
Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, said: "We are aware that some residents have questions about the proposals and would like to invite them along to have their say before a final decision is made.
"Any plans for a biomass system would be subject to an Environmental Planning Assessment, which would ensure that there are no risks to human health, and that any proposals are compliant with strict environmental regulations.
"It will also comply with Scottish Government's Energy Efficient Scotland programme, to ensure homes are greener, warmer and more efficient."
The consultation event will run on a drop-in basis from 4pm to 6pm, however to guarantee a place call 01294 324031 or email developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk to by Friday 04 October.
Proposals can also be viewed online at http://www.northayrshire.community/consultations/ from Wednesday, 09 October until Wednesday, 30 October.
The £19.5 million Flatt Road development will create 122 new homes, including 54 general needs homes, 22 supported accommodation units, 18 amenity bungalows and a 28-unit sheltered housing complex.
The project is part of North Ayrshire Council's ambitious plan to build 1,375 new homes by March 2024.
