New Walking Route Boasts Views Along River Teviot

Construction News Image
A new horse-riding and walking route has been developed around Monteviot, delivering striking views along the River Teviot.

Delivered by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland's (RHASS) Presidential Initiative 2019, the nine-mile circular route was opened to the public on Friday 19 July.

Opening the trail, The Most Honourable Marquis of Lothian, President of RHASS said: "We are delighted to see this new walking and riding route open to the public as part of our promotional initiative for the Scottish Borders.

"It is hoped that this initiative will lead to other such routes being created with support from RHASS members and thereby enable more people to enjoy safe and responsible access to their own countryside."

The route goes along the River Teviot and rises to the hills near the Wellington Monument.

Councillor Mark Rowley, Executive Member for Business and Economic Development, added: "It's been important SBC support the RHASS Presidential Team to deliver some fantastic initiatives promoting the Scottish Borders recently.

"The Royal Highland Show was a spectacular showcase for our Border Ridings and Festivals, our textile industry, our innovative biking opportunities and many great Borders businesses and traditions.

"This fantastic new walking and riding route will be a great legacy for the Borders RHASS Presidency. I'm sure it will encourage many more people to explore our wonderful Borders landscape and also encourage more land managers to explore opportunities for similar routes, encouraging even more to enjoy and explore our countryside which is so close and accessible to Edinburgh and the central belt."
