Community projects in Glasgow are to benefit from £4.85 million from the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
The Govanhill Baths project will receive £2.15million, Possilpoint £1.5million and the Kinning Park Complex £1.2million.
The Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) is a Scottish Government budget, developed in partnership with COSLA and local authorities. It has an annual budget of £25million and aims to provide financial support to projects that will help to deliver large-scale improvements to deprived areas. It focuses on projects that engage and involve local communities and those that can demonstrate the ability to deliver sustainable regeneration.
Over the previous five annual rounds of the RCGF, Glasgow City Council has been successful in securing funding for a number of regeneration projects. Completed projects include Cadder Community Centre, Westmuir Street School, and Barmulloch Community Regeneration Project, and a contribution to the Calton Barras Action Plan.
Current projects that are benefitting from RCGF awards include Royston Community Centre, Provan Hall House in Easterhouse, the Citizens Theatre redevelopment, Govan Old Church, and Sighthill Enterprise Wharf.
Councillor Kenny McLean, City Convener for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm at Glasgow City Council, said: "This support from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund is very welcome, and will help to deliver valuable community services in Glasgow. It is exciting to see these projects, led by people from Glasgow communities and supported by a number of organisations including the council, moving forward and continuing to make a difference in their areas and across the city."
Alex Wilde, Chair of Govanhill Baths Community Trust, also said: "We are delighted to have this final piece of the jigsaw in place to finally start the redevelopment of the Govanhill Baths. This success has been hard fought for and a result of the endless perseverance and determination by the Trust and its supporters. There is more hard work to come but the goal of restoring a much loved building and a creating a high quality Wellbeing facility for the community of Govanhill is within sight."
Niall Murphy, Govanhill Baths Building Preservation Trust, added: "This is great news for the health and wellbeing of the Govanhill community and a testament to many years of hard work from the Govanhill Baths team and their determination to bring the historic Baths back into sustainable use as an asset for Govanhill and Glasgow. This positive development means we now have the funding to start the tender process so we can get a contractor in place later in the year and then the community will start seeing progress."
Martin Avila, Development Director, Kinning Park Complex, said: "This award is fantastic news. To get this level of support allows us to build on the work that's been going on here for a number of years. It will allow us to build a bigger, brighter future for the KPC!"
Ann Lawrance of Possilpark People's Trust said: "We are absolutely delighted to be awarded this funding which is a huge step to the new family and community centre for Possilpark. This will play a huge part in making Possilpark a better place to live."
