Inverclyde Council has appointed Clark Contracts to deliver the multi million pound refurbishment of St Mary's Primary School in Greenock.
The construction, refurbishment and maintenance contractor is now on site with the transformation well underway.
The building will be modernised and an extension added to create a new gym and assembly hall in addition to the creation of a new entrance to the school. The existing building is due to be re-slated and all windows will be replaced with double glazed windows. The external doors will be replaced, stonework repaired and all classrooms and teaching facilities refurbished to provide a fully modernised building.
The £6million refurbishment and extension of St Mary's primary is the latest key project in Inverclyde Council's ambitious school's estate investment.
Inverclyde Council Education & Communities Convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: "The refurbishment of St Mary's Primary School will essentially create a new school within the existing walls. It will give staff and pupils the best possible facilities while maintaining that sense of history at the heart of the local community.
"This is the latest part of our school estate investment plan. If all goes to plan every child in Inverclyde will be in a new or fully refurbished school by 2020 enjoying the best facilities money can buy."
Michael Scanlan, Director, said: "It is fantastic to be working with Inverclyde Council to deliver this school facility for the children of Inverclyde."
