East Dunbartonshire Council Apprentice To Compete For Award
A modern apprentice from East Dunbartonshire Council has been shortlisted for a prize at this year's APSE Scotland awards.
Aidan Maguire, a second year modern apprentice in construction management, will compete to win the local authority apprentice/trainee of the year.
Aidan, a current student at South Lanarkshire College, said: "Following in the footsteps of my Dad and Grandad I have always wanted to work in construction and when I left school I completed an NPA in Construction and an NC and HNC in Building Services Engineering. I felt that university wasn't for me and I feel I have definitely made the right choice in pursuing a modern apprenticeship. I could not be happier in my job and I would encourage anyone considering a modern apprenticeship to go for it. It's a great opportunity to get hands-on experience whilst continuing your studies."
He added: "My goal is to become an experienced and skilled Project Manager, to have a positive impact on communities and the environment and continue to work hard and make my family proud."
Aidan has represented East Dunbartonshire Council at job fayres and school leaver events and is involved in the 2050 Climate Group Young leaders Development Programme.
He has also been involved in the development of Auchinairn Community and Early Learning Centre, a nurture kitchen at Bearsden Primary School and managing the final period for three major assets projects in East Dunbartonshire.
