24Hr Working At Aberdeen's Merchant Quarter

Construction News Image
As part of ongoing site investigation works to alleviate flooding issues in Aberdeen's Merchant Quarter, Scottish Water and its Alliance Partner amey-Black & Veatch (aBV) will implement 24 hour working throughout this weekend.

Due to the location of required work at the Market Street and Trinity Quay junction, round-the-clock working is required to allow investigations to be completed over the course of the weekend. Existing traffic management on Market Street and Trinity Quay will be altered to allow weekend work at the junction to take place.

There will be a deadline in place to ensure this section of work will be fully reinstated by 0600 on Monday morning. There may appear to be a period of reduced activity towards the end of the weekend; however, this is required to ensure the restored road surface is ready before the flow of traffic over it resumes.

If there are any unforeseen circumstances or complications that mean the site team is unable to complete this section of investigation within the allotted weekend time frame, it may be necessary to schedule a further period of 24 hour working at a later date.

Scottish Water and aBV will continue to work closely with Aberdeen City Council to ensure work is appropriately phased, with efforts made to minimise impacts on local businesses, residents and road users.

Scottish Water Corporate Affairs Manager Gavin Steel said: "We appreciate that these ongoing works at Aberdeen's Merchant Quarter are disruptive. By implementing 24 hour working over the coming weekend we hope to undertake an essential element of the investigations in a way that minimises impact as much as possible.

"This ongoing work is an essential part of future improvements to reduce the risk of storm flooding in an important and bustling part of Aberdeen's city centre. We need to make sure we identify the right solution to reduce the risk of flooding so that the city's waste water network can continue to serve customers and protect the local environment in years to come.

"We would encourage road users to plan their journeys and allow some extra time where possible – and thank customers for their patience while this essential work takes place."

Works on Trinity Quay and Shore Brae are progressing in line with the scheduled programme. Work will continue in Trinity Quay and begin in Trinity Street from Monday 4th February, in line with the already published plans.
