Morrison Construction has been selected to deliver a new primary school at the heart of a major housing development in Haddington.
More than 800 homes are being built at Letham Mains and the school, provisionally named Letham Primary School, will be built toward the north of the site.
The £8.6m school building due for completion in summer 2020, will be over two storeys and have 14 classrooms suitable for pre-school and primary teaching, a dining hall, social space and a two court PE hall with retractable seating for performance and community use. The external areas will be designed for outdoor learning, PE and play.
This award deepens Morrison Construction's relationship with East Lothian Council having previously worked on the Haddington Primary/St Mary's Primary joint campus and is in the finishing stages of the new Wallyford Primary School. Morrison is also the main contractor delivering the new East Lothian Community Hospital.
Eddie Robertson, Morrison Construction's Managing Director for Central Scotland, said: "We are delighted to be trusted to provide exceptional facilities that will serve East Lothian's ever-growing population and which will impact the local community for years to come. We look forward to engaging with the council and the community, including future pupils of the school, throughout the construction phase and beyond."
Work is due to start on site in February.
