Shetland Islands Council has announced a series of workshops and drop-in sessions as part of a project looking at future use of the Sullom Voe Harbour area which includes Yell Sound.
The Marine Spatial Planning team from NAFC Marine Centre has been contracted by Shetland Islands Council to create a masterplan to guide planning and inform leasing decisions in the area. It will also provide useful guidance for developers, reflecting the needs of the local community.
The public sessions are being led by NAFC and a team of specialists to gather insights about community objectives for the area and make a broad assessment of opportunities for different types of development.
John Smith, the SIC's Director of Infrastructure Services, said: "Throughput at the Sullom Voe Terminal is changing, and we have already seen interest from different sectors and groups about the potential for development in the area. The Council is keen to hear from those communities directly connected to Sullom Voe and Yell Sound, and these workshops are a great opportunity for people to have their say. We hope as many as possible can attend the events and share their ideas and aspirations."
Workshops and drop in sessions will be held on:
• Saturday 02 February - North Ness Public Hall, Ulsta, Yell, workshop 10.30 am – 1.00 pm
• Monday 04 February - NAFC, Scalloway, drop in, 3.30 pm – 7.30 pm
• Tuesday 05 February - Ollaberry Hall, workshop, 6.30 pm – 9.00 pm
• Wednesday 06 February - Brae Community Hall, drop in, 3.30 pm – 7.30 pm
Events are free to attend and tickets are not necessary but organisers encourage those planning to attend to register online or by calling 01595 772240.
For anyone who is unable to attend the events an online survey will be launched at the same time as the workshops, or you can book a face to face meeting with the team by calling the number above.
