The next stage in the development of the Tullos Community Wildlife Garden will be discussed at the next project meeting taking place today, Wednesday 09 Janaury.
Supported by Aberdeen City Council's community team and funded with a £30,000 award from the Council to regenerate greenspace, volunteers have helped transform an area of disused land in Torry to create a colourful haven between Tullos Place and Tullos Crescent.
The garden and growing space opened in May last year and plans for this year will be shaped at a meeting at the Torry Youth and Leisure Centre at Oscar Road. The session is open to all with an interest in getting involved in community growing in Aberdeen.
Work to date includes the creation of a public access path, raised beds for growing, benches and a colourful wildlife mural.
The group has recently been awarded £1,710 from the Community Food Growing Aberdeen fund for equipment and plants as well as to support the development of the garden and to support the setting up of a tool sharing library for the area. An additional £1,584 of Health Improvement Funding (£1,584) for Outdoor Learning sessions in the garden was also announced.
Councillor Lesley Dunbar, Vice-Convener of the Aberdeen City Council Education Operational Delivery Committee, said: "The garden has been a fantastic success, with more than 150 people attending the opening weekend. The project has captured the imagination of the community and the volunteers deserve an enormous amount of praise for their work to establish the site. There will be lots of opportunities to get involved in 2019 and this week's meeting will help to get the ball rolling."
