Scottish Water has completed a £700,000 project to reduce the risk of flooding affecting customers in Buckie.
The project delivered by Scottish Water's Alliance Partner, amey-Black & Veatch (aBV), sought to improve the sewer network between St Peter's Terrace and Sutherland Crescent by increasing the capacity of the sewer pipe and reducing the risk of flooding.
The scheme involved the installation of 250 metres of new, larger diameter sewer pipe which was laid starting at St Peter's Primary School; along St Peter's Terrace, across Land Street, on to St Peter's Road to the final connection point in Sutherland Crescent. A section of existing water main also had to be redirected to allow installation of the new sewer.
Gavin Steel, Corporate Affairs Manager for Scottish Water, said: "This was an important project to ensure the sewer network continues to serve our customers in Buckie and protect the local environment, with reduced risk of flooding during storm conditions. While working on site, our Alliance Partner worked hard to minimise disruption for local residents. As a result, they were able to deliver the work smoothly, safely and on time.
"We would like to thank the community in Buckie for their understanding and support as this essential work was completed."
Ross Cumming, aBV Project Manager, said: "We are pleased that this project is now complete, reducing the risk of flooding for a number of properties in Buckie. Despite the complex challenges of the project, we are pleased to have been able to deliver the work quickly and safely, for the benefit of the local community."
