Almost 400 delegates from over 100 cities will take part in one of the most prestigious conferences in Europe at this year's EUROCITIES hosted at the EICC between 28 – 30 November.
The three day event will explore how culture and creativity can deliver successful, inclusive and prosperous cities that enrich the quality of citizens' lives.
Established in 1986, EUROCITIES is a major network of European cities, bringing together the local governments of over 140 of Europe's largest cities and 40 partner cities that between them govern some 130 million citizens across 39 countries.
It is the network and platform for Europe's mayors and political leaders to address key urban challenges faced by cities in Europe. Edinburgh has been a member since 1991.
Commenting ahead of the event, Edinburgh's Lord Provost, Frank Ross, said: "It is a great honour that Edinburgh is hosting this fantastic event. It gives Edinburgh and our European neighbours the opportunity to share know-how, expertise, and best practice while showcasing the best our city has to offer. Edinburgh has a long history of strong European connections having played an important role in the intellectual, scientific and cultural development of Europe. We are really looking forward to welcoming cities from across the continent to share insights and ideas for tackling the challenges facing our cities."
As 2018 is Scotland's Year of Young People, there will be a special youth programme attended by over 70 delegates so young people can have an active voice in the discussions and share their perspectives and work together to shape Europe's future.
Anna Lisa Boni, Secretary General, EUROCITIES, added: "Edinburgh is a very good choice of host city and we look forward to hearing about the many positive examples of local innovation to share across our city network. EUROCITIES members will continue to work together in a spirit of openness and cooperation across Europe, despite the looming exit of the UK from the EU."
