Scotland TranServ Announces Resurfacing Works On M74

Construction News Image
Resurfacing works on the M74 Northbound between Draffan and Lochhead has been announced by Scotland TranServ.

As part of Transport Scotland's strategic trunk road management programme, in order for the £325k project to be completed as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a weekend contraflow on the southbound carriageway from 8pm on Friday 23 to 6am on Monday 26 November.

Jane Maclennan, Scotland TranServ's Assistant Engineer said: "In order to reduce the impact on commuters and businesses using one of Scotland's busiest roads, we're working across the weekend. In working with local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders, further cognisance has been taken of school holiday seasons and local events in the planning of this programme.

"Our specialist traffic modelling contractor is forecasting short delays through the contraflow, however drivers should still try to plan their journeys accordingly by adding some extra time. This is an important programme of work with the repeated freeze-thaw cycles of last winter, and flows of heavy traffic, taking their toll on the surface, which is now in need of renewal."

The health and safety of our workers and the travelling public is of paramount concern and therefore to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible a contraflow traffic management system will be installed on the Southbound carriageway, once traffic flows are sufficiently low from 8pm on Friday 23 to 6am on Monday 26 November.

Drivers are asked to check the trafficscotland.org, or follow @trafficscotland on Twitter for live updates, before heading out. Further information is available on the Scotland TranServ website. Special arrangements have been made for emergency services' vehicles.

The M74 road surface improvement project is one of a number of schemes being scheduled by Scotland TranServ to deliver long-term benefits to commuters, freight traffic and tourists heading across the region.

Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ's Operating Company Representative added: "Across South West Scotland, we're working on behalf of Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly and safely as possible. We have scheduled this programme of work to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption to the thousands of commuters and freight drivers using this extremely important economic artery every day."
