North Lanarkshire Council has published proposals to regenerate a derelict site in Orbiston Street Industrial Estate, Motherwell and build 14 modern industrial start-up units.

Working in partnership with its property Management Company, North Lanarkshire Properties, the council is working to secure funding for construction of the units just behind Motherwell Community Fire Station.

Local residents have also been asked for their views on this project via a short survey.


The units would range in size from 50 to 100sqm and provide good quality, accessible and affordable industrial accommodation. They would offer opportunities for local people to start up or grow their business, as well as increasing the availability and number of local trades and services.

The council is also setting up a partnership arrangement with New College Lanarkshire that will see one of the units being used to support students to start up and develop new businesses.

If successful, the funding bid would bring investment of £2.5 million to improve the industrial estate and help provide business accommodation for around 30 people.

The units would be part of the portfolio of commercial properties for rent by North Lanarkshire Properties.

In the longer term, there is also potential to create a further seven units on the site.

Feedback on the proposals must be given by Monday 05 November.
