£640,000 Gas Network Upgrade To Begin In Rutherglen

Construction News Image
Gas firm SGN has announced that work to upgrade its gas network in the Stonelaw Road area of Rutherglen is to begin.

More than £640,000 will be invested to replace old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

Following discussions with South Lanarkshire Council, the SGN project will start on Monday 29 October and last approximately 26 weeks.

The project is being split into six phases to minimise disruption as much as possible:

• Phase one – approximately two weeks

On Monday 29 October, work will start in Broomieknowe Road, at its junction with Blairbeth Road. For everyone's safety temporary three-way traffic lights will be installed at the junction. The lights will be manually controlled during peak times to minimise disruption as much as possible.

• Phase two – approximately six weeks

From Monday 12 November, work will take place in Victoria Road between its junctions with Albany Drive and Blairtum Drive. Work will continue in Viewpark Drive, Albert Drive, Highburgh Drive and Blairtum Drive. There will be no traffic management required for this phase.

• Phase three – approximately three weeks

From Monday 07 January 2019, work will occur in Broomieknowe Road and Broomieknowe Drive. There will be no traffic management required for this phase.

• Phase four – approximately nine weeks

From Monday 28 January 2019, work will commence in Victoria Road, Crosshill Drive, Mitchell Drive and Albany Drive. There will be no traffic management required for this phase.

• Phase five – approximately four weeks

From Monday 01 April 2019, the scheme will begin in Rodger Drive and Mill Street. For everyone's safety, two-way temporary lights will be implemented in the areas. These lights will be increased to three-way when work reaches Rodger Drive's junctions with Victoria Road and Broomieknowe Road. The lights will be manually controlled during peak times to minimise disruption as much as possible.

• Phase six – approximately two weeks

The final phase will begin on Monday 29 April starting at Stonelaw Road's junction with Rodger Drive. For everyone's safety, temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction. The lights will be manually controlled during peak times to minimise disruption as much as possible.

This project is the first stage of three stages scheduled to take place in the Burnside area. SGN will give advanced notification of stages two and three once they have been planned. Regular updates will also be posted on SGN's Scotland projects pages and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.
