Consultation Extended For Sherry Road Improvements

Construction News Image
The consultation period on suggested improvements to Sherry Drive, Hamilton, has been extended by South Lanarkshire Council.

The improvements involve changing the layout of the road and removing all of the chicanes.

An drop in event will take place on the project at St Mark's Primary School, Sherry Drive, on Monday 27 August from 5pm to 7.30pm.

The online survey will also be open until Tuesday 28 August for people to express their views.

There are four options to improve the road layout and enhance the safety of the road:

• Replace all chicanes with 9 sets of speed cushions.

• Remove all chicanes and provide four Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) along the length of Sherry Drive.

• Remove all chicanes and introduce seven narrow islands at points along Sherry Drive.

• Remove all chicanes, introduce Part-time mandatory 20mph speed limit over the frontage of the primary school and a further two VAS downhill from the school. Also provide a central hatched area with coloured surfacing over the length of Sherry Drive from Nevis Avenue to Stewart Avenue.

Councillor John Anderson, the chair of the council's Community and Enterprise Committee, said: "Each option involves the removal of the chicanes with various road safety measures also being introduced. So we want to hear from people about what they think the best option is.

"We have our own thoughts in terms of what will work best at the location, but it's important that we get feedback before making a decision. Engaging with the local community is extremely important to us as a council and I hope as many people as possible will take part in the survey and if they can make it, come along to the drop-in event as well."
