Construction work has begun on the development of new sports facilities on Park Road in Calderbank.
The £200,000 facilities will include a new multi purpose pitch and four-lane running track. The development will replace a disused ash park.
They will be exclusively available to Calderbank and Corpus Christi primary schools during the school day, but will be free to all locals outside of these times.
Councillor Jim Logue, Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, said: "The new facility will benefit people of all ages living in Calderbank. In particular, it will provide both primary schools with added opportunities for children to enhance their physical health and wellbeing.
"It's a large investment in the community and will revive the disused ash park on Park Road. There has been a lot of planning put into the delivery of this new, free-to-use facility and I wish to thank everyone involved. I'm sure it will become a much-loved community asset when it opens in a few weeks."
Transport Scotland provided the majority of money for the project with the remainder supplied through North Lanarkshire Council's Local Development Programme.
SportScotland, New Calderbank Regeneration Group and Calderbank Environmental Group helped bring the project into its construction phase.
Sharon Scullion, a member of the local steering group which included New Calderbank Regeneration Group and Calderbank Environmental Group added: "The ash park has been in decline for a long period and this project will bring it back into life. This is a real community facility but we need your help to ensure it is kept that way for the benefit of local people."
Work will take up to 12 weeks to complete.
