Orkney Islands Council is to begin road maintenance work in Stromness.

Work to repair the town's main street will start on 11 June with completion set for 15 June.

The scheme will take place from Alfred Street right through the town to John Street. To carry out the project safely, road closures will be in place between 8.30am and 2.15pm and again between 1.15pm and 3.30pm each day.


The programme of closures is as follows;

• Monday 11 June - John Street

• Tuesday 12 June and Wednesday 13 June- Victoria Street (John Street to Church Road).

• Thursday 14 June - Victoria Street (Church Road to Graham Place), Graham Place and Dundas Street.

• Friday 15 June - Alfred Street & Southend

Once works are completed, areas where repairs have been carried out will remain covered by metal plates for a number of days to protect the works until all materials have had sufficient curing time.
