Slight Drop In Housing Registrations In Scotland

Construction News Image
More than 11,200 new homes were registered to be built in the UK during April, according to the National House Building Council (NHBC).

The new figures reveal a slight drop in housing registration numbers when compared with last year, when 12,648 new homes were registered during April 2017.

Overall, a total of 11,216 new homes were registered during the month, with 7,634 new homes in the private sector (2017; 9,350) and 2,582 in the 'affordable' sector (2017; 3,298).

On a regional basis, slight falls in housing registrations were also recorded in Scotland, with 2,988 homes registered this year compared with 3,734 last year, while in Wales numbers dipped slightly from 1,311 in April 2017 to 1,255 this year. However, there was a slight rise in Northern Ireland & Isle of Man, from 816 homes in 2017 to 889 homes for the month this year.

Commenting on the latest figures, NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said: "April's new home registration figures are consistent with the monthly volumes already seen during 2018 and despite a challenging start to the year industry confidence is strong.

"As 2018 progresses, NHBC will continue to work with house builders to help them raise the standards of new homes, with a clear focus on delivering quality for residents and buyers."
