Work is continuing on a gantry refurbishment project along the M8 motorway.

So far, Scotland TranServ has reinstated five out of the current crop of gantries, with a further two scheduled for removal this month.

These include;

• M8 Eastbound Junction 11 near Glasgow Fort

• M8 Eastbound Junction 12 near Barlinnie Prison

Removal works will take place overnight on 23 and 24 March. The following week (30 to 31 March) a further gantry will be reinstated following refurbishment;


• M8 Eastbound Junction 24 near Clyde Tunnel

Since 2013, a total of 23 gantries have been transformed and a further six are programmed for 2018/19.

Scotland TranServ stated; "With the addition of LED lighting on the signage, as opposed to the existing HPS lights, the gantries are delivering a 70% carbon saving. Because the structures have also been refurbished rather than installing completely new gantries, we've also saved as much as 300 tonnes of steel.

"The gantries are removed off site and totally refurbished within a 20 mile radius of their original location.

"We've also been cutting down on disruption, with the structures removed and reinstated during weekend overnight closures."
