Glasgow City Council has started searching for contractors to deliver up to £130 million worth of public realm infrastructure work across the city.
The individual contracts, which are anticipated to range in value from £5m - £20m, are part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
Main contractors are being sought to deliver all elements required for the construction, repair and maintenance of public realm schemes. Features include;
• Construction, repair and maintenance of high-quality natural stone surfaces, street furniture and decorative items
• Carriageway and Footway construction, reconstruction and resurfacing
• Water-sensitive Urban Design, including rain gardens and planting beds as part of water surface drainage schemes, as well as drainage and associated work
• Street Lighting
• In-situ Recycling
• Earthworks and Remediation
• Green infrastructure
The council has now started the procurement process and a framework will be developed, with suppliers expected to be appointed around the end of 2019. Further opportunities for specific contract awards will begin in early 2019, continuing for a four-year period thereafter.
Council Leader Susan Aitken said: “These contracts are for work that will transform areas in Glasgow, and will bring economic, environmental and social benefits for the city. I would encourage businesses and organisations - including local ones - of any size who feel they could deliver this work to make their interest known.”
