Industry Firms Invited To Western Isles Supplier Event

Construction News Image
Construction firms are being invited to find out more information over future planned 'affordable' housing projects in the Western Isles.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) are hosting an industry supplier event this week to engage with the local supply chain and provide information on future schemes as part of the region's Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP).

Upcoming developments will include the construction of a 52-bed care home, along with 50 extra care units and 62 'affordable' houses on a site in the Goathill area of Stornoway. Work is currently underway to determine the procurement strategy for construction works.

Comhairle Leader Roddie Mackay said: "The Partners are very interested in the views of the construction industry on how this project could be delivered and how the works might best be procured to deliver value for money and a significant positive impact for the islands.

"Although we have a tight timescale by which these works must be delivered there are real opportunities for the project to make a significant contribution to the local economy. I would urge contractors and suppliers to come along."

HHP Chairman Norman Macleod said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Comhairle to deliver this project. We look forward to hearing the views of the construction industry on how we can deliver new homes for the ambitious timescales that we have been set."

The event will take place from 10am at Caladh Inn, 11 James St, Stornoway on Thursday, 08 March.
