Balfour Beatty is set to build Dundee's new £32 million Regional Performance Centre for Sport.
Councillors will be asked next week to accept a tender from the contractor for the project, which will see a new eight-court multi sports hub facility built in the city by autumn 2019.
The campus will feature spectator seating, a strength and conditioning suite, a state-of-the-art sports science suite, as well as a full size indoor/artificial 3G football pitch and outdoor artificial/3G 'rugby sized' pitch suitable for both rugby and football.
In addition, a new indoor athletics centre will feature an 80-metre running straight to provide all-weather training for athletes. The existing athletics track will be resurfaced and a covered spectator area added, while the recently resurfaced velodrome is to have a new area of hardstanding provided for competition, with upgraded floodlighting. A seven-side community grass football pitch will also have open access for use by the local community.
The centre is also benefiting from a £5 million grant from sportscotland.
Council Leader John Alexander said: "This ambitious project will provide a superb sports facility that also contains a £5 million energy centre.
"This innovative renewable energy approach will give us a district heating capability that has attracted the first award of ERDF Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme funding of £3 million.
"I am also pleased that the Scottish Government have responded positively to our request around non-domestic rates that mean that the exceptional circumstances of this project have been taken into account.
"I am sure that this centre will provide huge benefits for the city and its people and reflects our drive to make Dundee a better place for all.
"It will provide top class sporting facilities that will support athletes in their development and help improve the health of our population through participation in sport."
