Residents in Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston are being invited to submit their views over a proposed public water network upgrade for both communities.
Scottish Water, in partnership with alliance partner Efficient Service Delivery (ESD), has drawn up plans to replace two existing Water Treatment Works that serve the area with a new facility located in forestry south of Invermoriston.
Features include installing a new water main to connect the two communities, while a new storage tank would be built on high ground to the north of Fort Augustus. In addition, further water storage capacity will be created at a Scottish Water site in Invermoriston.
The project will also include the renewal of key sections of Scottish Water's network in Fort Augustus, including a new water main crossing beneath the Caledonian Canal and the River Oich.
An information event for residents and businesses to discuss the proposed investment will take place at the Lovat Hotel from 3pm – 8pm on Thursday, 15 March.
David Kitching of Scottish Water said: "Our proposals have been carefully developed to ensure that we can continue to provide high quality water to our customers in the Great Glen for many years to come.
"There are several elements of our investment, but taken as a whole it will deliver a drinking water supply which is more reliable, resilient and sustainable for the long term. We are keen for local residents and businesses to understand the work we are proposing and for them to be able to contribute to the preparations we are making."
ESD Senior Project Manager Charles Bull added: "The investment we are delivering will bring significant long term benefit to Scottish Water customers in Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston, but we recognise that there will be some disruption associated with the construction process. We want to do what we can to keep any short term inconvenience for residents, visitors and businesses to a minimum.
"I would encourage local residents to attend our event to understand our proposals, discuss the preparations we are making and provide us with their feedback."
